TERMS OF ADMISSION

  • be at least 17 years and 9 months of age
  • have PKK number
  • Important: Foreigners must prove that they reside in Poland for at least 185 days per year (so-called habitual residence) or that they have been studying in Poland for at least 6 months. This is a basic legal requirement.

Driving lessons category B – PKK number:

PKK is given as your personal driver’s profile number to identify you as a learner.  After the completed tuition it will let you sign up for the final national examination. To apply for PKK number you have to visit the respective City Hall  depending on the address on your Residence Card.

  • Residence Card  – Residence Card is an ID plastic card that, in most cases, you should already have.
  • Your medical report – Please note that you can obtain your medical report from any physician qualified in drivers examination.
  • Fill in the application form – The form can be collected at the City Hall
  • A driver’s licence photo of you  – The photo must meet a few formal requirements (i.e. size 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm). Please, ask for a driver’s licence photo at the photographers.
  • Psychological examination records if you apply for a vocational licence
  • Your current driving licence photocopy if you have one
  • Your parents’ consent if you are underage

It depends on which country issued the driving licence:

If the licence was issued in an EU or EFTA country (e.g. Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland) – there is no need to exchange it. The person can drive in Poland as long as the licence is valid. They may also voluntarily exchange it for a Polish one (no exam required).

If the licence was issued outside the EU/EFTA but in a country that signed the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (1968) – the foreigner can drive in Poland for up to 6 months from the start of their stay. After that, they must exchange it for a Polish licence (no exam required, provided the licence meets the requirements).

If the licence comes from a country that is not part of the EU/EFTA and has not signed the Vienna Convention – it is not recognised in Poland, and the person must pass the full Polish driving test to obtain a local licence.

If a foreigner wants to get a driving licence in Poland from scratch, regardless of having a licence from another country, they need to:

  1. Have a PESEL number or official registration in Poland (to obtain the so-called “driver candidate profile” – PKK).
  2. Undergo a medical examination.
  3. Complete a driving school course and pass the state exam (theory + practical) at a WORD centre.
